8th Grade Syndrome

Newt Gingrich was pontificating the other day, as is his wont, about the just completed midterms, giving the Republican party spin that it wasn’t all that bad, got control of the House, yadda yadda, but had to admit the much anticipated ‘red wave’ turned out to be nothing more than a slightly higher tide than usual. Seemed to surprise him and he concluded that maybe, just maybe, he needs to reevaluate his political thinking.

‘Bout time.

It’s been rather clear to those of us not blinded by party and politics that a goodly portion of the American people have reached a fatal level of self-absorption and illogic, what I like to call “8th grade syndrome.” ‘Why can’t we all get along?’ is the central core of their social and cultural stance and they firmly believe material goods and security and recreation are freely and deservedly provided by dufus parents who Just Don’t Understand Me. So, they vote accordingly, for anyone who promises to give them anything for free; against anyone they think is mean i.e., anyone who talks like a dufus parent, i.e., conservatives; and for anyone they feel sorry for, i.e., Fetterman. The result? Over the past twenty years, there has been an increasing Balkanization of the populace, somewhat along the same lines that split the Romans and the Visigoths, with about as much chance of compromise.

Newt and the other Republican party mavens have, of course, missed this. Having moved from one civilized environment to the next - middle class family to middle class college and career - they developed a logical and common-sense view of human behavior. Maslov’s Hierarchy of Needs and western civilization’s inspirations and motivations for family, relevance, and prosperity form the convictions and subsequent voting patterns of the populace. In normal times those are givens and the various political parties set their platforms based on them, the Republicans for an orderly society in which anyone can participate by exertions of their own efforts, the Democrats for more assistance to those who have somehow missed the chance to participate, the one-off lunatic fringe parties for their various single issues, such as the environment or anarchy.

That was then, this is now.

Pocketbook issues and common sense are now only the province of a rapidly dwindling boomer generation, which was the last one raised with individuality, respect, and optimism. We now have the Nietzsche generations ascending, and they have far more loyalty to themselves than they do to social structures. Anything that promotes their own well-being and the advantage of their friends over others has their attention. They are far more akin to the 18th Century aristocracies than they are to the American yeoman class, seeking power and wealth and control over yon peasants who still cling to those outmoded concepts of individual rights and sacrifice and responsibility.

Which is why they vote for Fetterman. Because a brain-dead pseudo-Marxist is far more likely to help install the neo-corporatist state that they feel will bring about the eight-grade world they have long dreamed of than will some fussing farmer boy spouting self-reliance and more police.

Which means, of course, that all former bets are off. So, Newt, and everyone else who still thinks elections will save us, y’all best re-evaluate.

Contrast and compare

Egypt. Westernized, civilized (to a point), suffered under the thumb of a rather oppressive guy. The Egyptian Army- taught by us, armed by us, financed by us. Apolitical, widely trusted by the people. Disobeyed Mubarrak and did not fire on the demonstrators. Quietly took over the administration of the country and is now working towards elections.

Libya- Russian trained, Russian supplied. Socialist country, loved by the left because like, you know, Qaddafi? He’s a revolutionary, man. Now mowing down their people by the thousands.

Mull that.

April 15 rally at the Washington Monument

Uh, for the previous post below, you might have to click on the image to see the hidden celebrity. For now, photos from the latest rally just a few days ago. There were, I'd say, about 20, 22,000 people there scattered from the Monument down to the stage. Very calm crowd, rather laid back, enjoying the show. Ray Stevens, Guitarzan himself, did a few songs, quite funny. The guy is still singing strong. Victoria Jackson did her "Commie in the White House" thing, which was good, and there were lots of speakers, including Lord Moncton ( I probably misspelled that), Tucker Carlson, and, uh, Ron Paul. How he got away from his keepers, I don't know:

Fair and balanced

The handsome guy is Baby Schlub, doin' the old man proud. In the middle is the counter-protest, thanking Obama like he wanted. On the right, of course, is the refutation.

My sentiments exactly.

Cap, the Continental Army, and a President.

Not fans, these.

Schlub's State of the Union

My fellow Americans,

And you know who you are. The State of the Union is bad. Bad, bad, bad. In November 2008, half of our countrymen took leave of their senses and voted for an empty suited naif with the experience level of a typical college intern, the sense of a dead housefly, and the ideology of every other pampered egoist with an overweening sense of superiority- yes, I mean Marxism. If you didn't know better, you would have sworn the KGB had engineered a coup. Come to think of it...

At any rate, this idiot and his faculty adjuncts have had at us for a year and what's the result? Dee saster. We're in so much debt the Chinese are lecturing us on fiscal responsibility, so many people out of work you'd swear it's 1929, and the terrorists are so unimpressed they're actually sending clowns to attack us. Underwear bomber. How humiliating.

But, there are signs of hope. The people of Massachusetts threw off their chains and sent an actual man to the Senate. The medical takeover has been halted, Tea Partiers are having conventions, and there's talk of a two-House takeover. Wow. Baracula has been reduced to a sputtering nincompoop taking snit shots at Republicans, that lower lip starting to tremble in the most entertaining of ways.

So, all is not lost. While we have had very dark moments, and the enemy is still in control, the people are awakening. For that, we can actually thank Baracula and his minions. After all, if they hadn't been elected, people would still believe liberalism is a viable governing philosophy.

Keep your chins up.

Film at 11

Allright, finally, got some videos uploaded for your viewing pleasure. Took awhile, and I can't seem to get the video of Michele Bachman's complete speech to load, but I'll give it a couple of more shots.

These are random. The first one is this hilarious guy, name unknown, who gave like a ten minute comedy monologue as the Grim Reaper, saying how much he loved Pelosicare. He then stood up and gave directions to her office, which I'm sure led to her graciously receiving her constituents and listening intently to their concerns. Before arresting them.

They started blasting out "Won't Get Fooled Again" before the speeches, which was cool. Schlub, at that point, got into a rather boisterous discussion with five Obamacare lovers who were dressed like doctors and carrying signs like "Michele Bachman Will Kill You." Schlub, during the course of the very mild and unassuming discussion, mentioned the Marxism, fascism, unAmericanism, and general cretinhoodedness of the four or five sign carrying traitors. I was joined by an 84 year old lady who vigorously echoed those sentiments. Don't mess with her, man, she'll kick your rear. One of the five identified herself as an attorney and then gushed about the VA, because that was government health care and it was soooo wonderful. Schlub advised the attorney that he, as a 20 year veteran of the US Armed Forces, availed himself of VA health care and would she like to hear some actual, true stories about the type and quality of care, you know, the weeks to get an appointment, the six months to see a specialist, things like that? That's when they left.

There were four or five rude and obnoxious guys running around carrying a banner about freeing Leonard Pelletier. Leonard Pelletier? What is this, the 70's? During the benediction, one of them ran through the crowd carrying an upside down flag screaming "Free Leonard!" During the benediction, people! Schlub turned, placed a finger in the moron's face and mildly said, "Just one more word..." He left, too. You can see them in one of the videos below being moved along by Capitol Police.

Chants of "Kill the Bill," "USA." Yep, there are still some Americans left in America.

House Call, 5 Nov 09

Schlub wandered on down to the Capitol to see what all the hubbub was about and ran into 15,000 of his closest friends. Well now, a work day, the middle of it, to be exact, and this impromptu on-the-fly garden party sure got a lot of gate crashers. Was a lovely day, as you can see:

That sign sez: "Rep David Scott, call your staff. They're a little uncertain about your schedule today." Ha! I'll bet

Just a few people there:

A slightly disgruntled former AARP member:

The last time a Virginia flag got this close, there was almost a change in government.

I've got several more photos and video, including most of Michele Bachman's speech, but Blogspot is a finicky creature and not allowing me to load and/or place proper commentary right now, so those will dribble in over the next few days. And, no, this isn't some slimey Schlub tactic to make you look. Really.

Start spreading the news...

Some random images from the 9/12 march. I got a lot more, but, hey, you get the idea. I tried to load a video of some guy, whose name escapes me, doing a parody of "New York, New York" called "2010," but blogspot won't take it. Must be copyright issues or something.

1.2 million Part 2

Some pictures, video from the march down Pennsylvania Ave:

1.2 million

Un. Be. Lievable. I figured 50, 60 thousand tops, and most of those from the local area. When we pulled into the Metro station, though, the line for tickets was out the door. Surprise! At every stop, hundreds of sign-carrying right wing terrorists poured onto the cars. At Reagan Airport, a couple got on and told me they'd just stepped off a plane from the Philippines! Business trip, right to the protest.

Federal Triangle was so mobbed they just waved us right through:

This was the scene at Freedom Plaza:

Haven't seen this sign since the 60's.
Then the march began:

This was inscribed on the side of the Newseum, and prompted a "Read the Building!" chant as we passed:

This was the counterprotest. A bunch of smarmy college students dressed in suits (CEOs of insurance companies, doncha know) singing songs extolling the joys of socialized medicine. But the guy behind them with the sign was hilarious:

The Grim Reaper was there:

and 1.2 million of Schlub's friends:

Schlub's son and Schlub. Age difference should be obvious:

All kinds of people:

Man, the creativity:

These two just caught my eye:

One video (hope it works).
Hey, Nancy, Harry, Baracula...did you, by chance, notice some people were on the lawn?

Should be horsewhipped

Joe Wilson spoke out of turn, a violation of decorum that justifies some type of censure. It was rude, crude, gauche. Bad Congressman, bad congressman. Here's a donation to teach you a lesson.

Sleeping giant stirs

About 200 people showed up at the intersection across from Representative Jerry Connolly's office in Annandale, Virginia to vent spleen about his support for Obama's fascist takeover of healthcare. Yeah, that's right, fascist. You hear me, Jer?

That's right, Jer. A myth.

Yeah, why IS Jerry hiding? He was, of course, nowhere to be found.

Captain America was there

Keith Femian, running AGAINST Connolly, was there.

But no Jerry.

Surprise.

I have a lot more pictures, but these'll do for now. It was pretty raucous; this is a very busy intersection located next to an apartment complex and a shopping plaza and we were yelling a lot. But there was no trouble; indeed, a good time was had by all. The vast majority of people driving by gave us a thumbs up or a supporting honk. Even a Fairfax County cop give us the high sign! There were about six thumbs down and, towards the end, an SUV filled with CWA union thugs drove by at a high rate of speed waving "Health Care Now" prepackaged plastic signs. They went by so fast we thought they were supporters, but didn't make that mistake when they zipped back. Roundly booed.

A lot of fed up, frustrated, angry people. You hear that, Jer?

Be afraid, be very afraid.
